Disneyland of Domination

» BDSM in Popular Culture

A phrase from this review of an exhibition of Susan Meiselas’ BDSM themed photographs.

The art object as objectifier:

… One becomes acutely aware of the dichotomy in the relationship between the looker—the viewer—and the looked at—those depicted in the photographs. This relay awakens us to the casual sadism of vision, and illustrates much more than the workings of an S&M club. Rather, it demonstrates several levels of objectification: the objectification of the masochist by the dominatrix, and the reverse, as well as the objectification of both by the viewer, who stands safely distanced from the implied sexual act.

This is typical arty farty mumbo jumbo. what does it mean? Its simply some sycophantic, self agrandising lick spittle trying to make themselve sound like they know somthing the rest of us just cannot understand. I know in my last post that I argued against forcible education, but ‘artists’ like these need to be sat down, given Hans Christian Andersons story of ‘The kings new clothes’, and asked ‘what is it about this story that you don’t grasp?’

On your previous post about Harry Potter, I read someone who described his relationship with Malfroy as ‘Homo-erotic’. As a potter fan I was staggered, and it amazes me at just what straws some people will clasp to try to further their own agenda. Potter and Malfroy hate each other, they are the embodiments of good and evil, and anyone who reads anything more than that into their relationship is cluching at straws.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Disneyland of Domination. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
