A lighthearted romp that barely suggests the heavy-duty fetishism of its inspiration—an underground comic strip by John Willie—the 1984 Gwendoline was the last movie from erotic filmmaker Just Jaeckin, whose previous triumphs included Emanuelle and The Story of O. With music-video vixen Tawny Kitaen in the title role, the film saw release in truncated form as The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak. The newly formed Severin Films, whose founders were the original principals in Blue Underground, has issued both Gwendoline versions on DVD for its inaugural release, and the company couldn’t have done a better job. …
