SadoJudaism

From an interview with British Jewish comedian Ivor Dembina:

SadoJudaism – the term might well cause a frisson. It’s a show about fetishism and Judaism, Ivor confesses disarmingly that he’s Jewish and also a sexual fetishist. ‘In the course of show I look for connections and try and play comedy out of them. The term simply means I enjoy being beaten – but not in business! I look at my own masochism in relation to the Jewish psyche. For me persecution infiltrates the sexual psyche on a deeply personal level. There’s an audience building up in Jewish community for that show, with a particularly keen interest in America. ‘Before anyone starts writing letters I really am not being pretentious but I do feel there is something in the relationship of the Jewish male to his mother, a desire to please and avoid disapproval. But I don’t pretend to have PhD about it’.
