Glenn Marcus : Trial Date Set

I posted on my blog last August about Glen Marcus. I guess this is going to be another case where the concept of ‘Informed Consent’ will be investigated in court. It will be intresting to see what happens, will ‘consent’ be accepted as a defence?

More Intresting to me was the comment by another of his ‘slaves’ who may well be a prosecution witness, and who has claimed to have been ‘Brainwashed’ by Marcus. In lay terms somone who undergoes cult recruitment may describe themselves, when out of the cult, as being brainwashed. The Anti cult community however prefere to use much more descriptive phrases such as ‘undue influence’ or ‘thought reform’ The phrase ‘brainwashing’ described a process identified in returning prisoners from the Korean War. These prisoners where under no illusion what the consquences of not accepting the new belief.

Cults today use much more sophisticated processes, but the processes where first identified by the same people who treated the returning Korean prisoners. Because these processes have become honed and sophisticated over the years, its very difficult for rescued cult members to understand what has happened to them.

I think Glen Marcus is kind of a punk. He finds people who are obviusly sort of pathetic and uses the finest lines society allows for decency, tolerance, and consent to torture people. He went WAY to far with the leniency society tolerates…he deserves 30 years. He’s sick.
