What mass media says about atypical sexuality is always a bit interesting. A couple of recent Slate columns for example.
Emily Yoffe who currently writes Dear Prudence replies to a wife who is disturbed by her husband’s recently discovered pleasure in transvestism:
You’re asking me if you should worry, but only you know if you are worried and feel the joke has gone on too long. If it has, tell your husband that for your sake, it’s time he gave up being one of the gals.
My husband has taken to cross-dressing for fun. Should I discourage him?
It doesn’t occur to Yost that the husband may be doing more than playing a game. That he may be expressing long suppressed and deeply felt needs.
Juliet Lapidos in Explainer writes of Max Mosley’s Nazi-themed BDSM ‘orgy:’
As for the orgy’s Nazi overtones, Nazi costumes and other paraphernalia are not unheard of in the sexual role-play subculture. Like biker gear, SS outfits can heighten the sense of a “top/bottom” power differential, which, to some, is highly arousing.
It was distasteful. Was it also pathological?
Surprisingly understanding.
